How ILOE works in the UAE
ILOE (Involuntary Loss of Employment) is the UAE’s mandatory unemployment insurance, introduced under Federal Decree-Law No. 13 of 2022. For a small monthly premium it pays a short-term cash benefit if you lose your job through no fault of your own — a redundancy, for example, but not a resignation or a dismissal for misconduct.
Your premium: AED 5 a month if your basic salary is AED 16,000 or below (Category A), or AED 10 a month above that (Category B), plus 5% VAT. Your payout: 60% of your average basic salary for up to three months, capped at AED 10,000 (Category A) or AED 20,000 (Category B) a month.
To claim you must have been subscribed for at least 12 consecutive months, lost the job involuntarily, and file within 30 days. Skipping the scheme carries a AED 400 fine.

Common Questions
ILOE — FAQ
How much is ILOE insurance per month?
It depends on your basic salary. If your basic salary is AED 16,000 or below (Category A) the premium is AED 5 a month (AED 60 a year). If it is above AED 16,000 (Category B) it is AED 10 a month (AED 120 a year). A 5% VAT is added, charged with your first instalment.
How much does ILOE pay if I lose my job?
ILOE pays 60% of your average basic salary over your last six months, for up to three monthly payments per claim, capped at AED 10,000 a month for Category A and AED 20,000 a month for Category B. For example, an AED 30,000 basic salary gives AED 18,000 a month for up to three months. This calculator estimates that from the salary you enter.
How accurate is this ILOE calculator?
The premium and category are exact for the current scheme rules. The payout is an estimate: the official benefit is based on your average basic salary over your last six months, so if your recent salary varied, your actual payout may differ from the figure shown here. Always confirm at iloe.ae.
Is ILOE mandatory, and what if I don't subscribe?
Yes — ILOE is compulsory for almost all federal-government and private-sector employees. Failing to subscribe carries a AED 400 fine, plus a penalty for unpaid premiums, collected through the Wage Protection System or your end-of-service and able to delay a new work permit.
How do I actually subscribe to ILOE?
You subscribe yourself using your Emirates ID on the official portal iloe.ae or the ILOE app, or through channels such as Al Ansari Exchange, Tasheel/Tawjeeh centres, du/Etisalat SMS and selected bank apps. See our full ILOE guide for the step-by-step.
